Before commencing training on any LGV vehicle, you must first apply for a provisional licence. The minimum age for training is normally 18 years of age, subject to restrictions until 21 years.
You will be required to take a medical examination before applying for your provisional licence. The medical form is to be sent with your application. (Forms D2.). There is no fee for your provisional licence. When your licence is returned it will show the provisional entitlement. You are now able to take the theory tests. The theory test is in two parts, you will be required to answer and do a hazard perception test.
Once you pass your theory tests, you will be ready to commence practical training. The practical test with DSA examiner lasts approximately one and a half hours. If you wish to drive professionally you will be required to take additional driver CPC theory and practical tests.
